The High Court granted three-week anticipatory bail to BNP leaders and lawyers Zainul Abedin, Nitai Roy Chowdhury and AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon in two separate cases filed on October 28 for vandalizing the residence of the Chief Justice and obstructing the police.

At the same time, the High Court ordered to surrender to the concerned lower court in the case within three weeks.

In view of two separate applications made by BNP leaders seeking bail in the case, Justice Abu Taher said. Saifur Rahman and Justice Md. Bashir Ullah’s bench gave this order.

Earlier on this day, the applicants appeared before the bench for bail.

Pro-BNP lawyers including senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali, Subrata Chowdhury heard the petition in court.

On October 29, police filed a case against several BNP leaders and activists including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Zainul Abedin, Nitai Roy Chowdhury and AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon at Ramna police station for allegedly vandalizing the residence of the Chief Justice and obstructing the police.

During the hearing of the application, Deputy Attorney General KM Masud Rumi was on the side of the state.
