World Robot Olympiad 2023, one of the world’s largest robotics competitions, is going to be held in Panama City today. This is the 25th edition of the competition. Three teams of Bangladesh have already arrived in Panama City to represent other countries in this event.

The teams representing Bangladesh are ‘Mechascratch_404’, ‘Robniam Bangladesh’ and ‘Bite Bandits’. For the second time, contestants from Bangladesh are participating in this competition. There are a total of eight contestants in three teams. They are Abu Nafis Mohammad Noor Rohan of Notre Dame College and Mahir Tajwar Chowdhury of Mirzapur Cadet College of Team MechaScratch_404. Team Robaniam Bangladesh consists of Israfil Shaheen Aranya from Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College, Kazi Mostahid Labib and Tafseer Tahrim from Sunnydale.

The members of Team Bite Bandits are Hasibuzzaman Bhuiyan of Wills Little Flower School and College, Chowdhury Muhammad Minhatullah of Notre Dame College and Atiqa Binte Amin of Krishi University College. Redwan Ferdous and faction leader Maherul Azam Qureshi are the party leaders.

Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN) is one of the organizers of World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh. Recently, the managing director of Computer Services Limited, Mumeluk Chhabir Ahmad, introduced the robot team to everyone through a press conference at the company’s office.

In 2020, Bangladesh became a member of the World Robot Olympiad. Bangladesh is WRO’s 25th member in Asia and 84th among its global members. In 2021, participating in the event held online for the first time, Bangladesh secured the tenth position. 200 teams from 66 countries of the world participated in that event. In 2022, for the first time, Bangladesh competed with 375 teams from 73 countries in the world and won the bronze medal as well as the eighth place. And Bangladesh is directly participating for the second time this year.

The Bangladesh national phase of the World Robot Olympiad 2023 was held at the National Science and Technology Complex in the capital last September. In this phase, the winners are selected for the two-day international team selection camp and the representative team. The Olympiad was organized by Bangladesh Science and Technology Museum and Bangladesh Open Source Network under the auspices of Augmedix Bangladesh and in collaboration with Hatch Center of Stanford University.
