Barisal: The court sentenced a drug dealer to life imprisonment in Barisal. In addition, a fine of 10,000 taka, in default of payment, another 6 months imprisonment without labor has been imposed.
Barisal Divisional Special Judge Court Judge Mehdi Al Masood gave the verdict on Monday (November 6).
Convicted Habibur Rahman alias Parvez Sikder was absent in the court when the verdict was announced, said bench assistant Abul Bashar.
Md. Parvez Parvez of Barisal’s Bakerganj Upazila Madhya Charadi village. Son of Khalil Sikder. He was a tenant of Yunus Police in Laldighi Par area of Barisal Nagar.
Citing the case, Bench Assistant Bashar said that on the night of April 9, 2016, a team of RAB-8 was on patrol in the city. Based on secret information, RAB’s patrol team took position at the mouth of Adam Ali Haji Gali, Kshirodh Mukherjee Lane, Battala of the city. At that time an autorickshaw signaled to stop while crossing that area. The driver, Parvez Sikder, was arrested after RAB stopped the auto-rickshaw and tried to escape.
Later RAB recovered 59 bottles of phensidyl from that autorickshaw.
RAB SI Abdullah Al Mamun filed a case at Kotwali Model Police Station as a plaintiff in this incident.
On May 30 of the same year, SI Kamruzzaman Liza of Kotwali Model Police Station submitted a report to the court accusing only Parvez. The judge ruled on the testimony of 7 people.
The bench assistant said that the sentence of fugitive Parvez Sikder will start after he surrenders or is arrested in the court.
