Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek said that Bangladesh has been able to eliminate black fever as the first country in the world. For this reason, the World Health Organization (WHO) has also given the certificate. Following the guidelines of WHO, we have worked specially to set up standard treatment and labs. At the same time, he also said that Bangladesh has become free of filaria.

He said these things at a press conference on the victory of the Prime Minister’s daughter Saima Wazed as the director of the Southeast Asia region of the World Health Organization, Bangladesh becoming the first in the world to be free of black fever and free of filaria.

The health minister said, we have given the information of the last four years to the WHO. They reviewed and found that Bangladesh has actually been able to eliminate black fever. The organization gave us the certificate on 30th October. No other country in the world has yet been free from black fever. We are also free of filaria at the same time.

He also said that Saima Wazed’s election as the Regional Director of the World Health Organization is the prime minister’s success and achievement. Because the representatives of 8 Southeast Asian countries have trusted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina before voting for Saima Wazed.
