Barisal: Bakerganj Thana Police arrested five BNP leaders and activists while trying to create panic among the public by blowing up cocktails in Barisal’s Bakerganj. Meanwhile, part of the cocktail-like object has been seized as special evidence.

The incident took place on the Barisal-Patuakhali highway near Boalia Bazar on Sunday (November 5) night.

The local BNP leader among those arrested. Police have confirmed the names of Labib Howladar and Rafiq Sardar.

Bakerganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Maksudur Rahman said that some miscreants gathered at the bridge area of ​​Barisal-Patuakhali highway at night. They detonated several cocktails there to create panic in the public mind. On receiving the information, the members of the Thana police went to the spot and when the miscreants tried to escape, five BNP leaders and activists were chased and arrested.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Bakerganj Circle) Md. Farhad Sardar said that a team led by the OC of Bakerganj police station went to the spot after learning about the panic created by the cocktail explosion. They detonated the cocktail even when the police car was about 100 yards away from the spot. Later, five people were arrested by raiding the spot.

After verifying the information about the detainees, besides taking legal measures, the operation is underway to arrest the others involved in the incident, said the official.
