Chittagong: In protest against the arrest and remand of Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the National Standing Committee of BNP, from his home in Gulshan in Dhaka, BNP called a morning-evening strike in Chittagong on Sunday (November 5).
Chittagong Metropolitan BNP former sub-office secretary and currently office coordinator Md. Idris Ali told BanglaNews that the leaders sought the cooperation of all levels of leaders and workers of the metropolis, north and south district BNP and organizations and the people of Chittagong to make the strike a peaceful success.
It is said in the party notification that the hartal program will be held in Chittagong district and metropolis. However, ambulances, vehicles carrying newspapers and journalists, fire service vehicles will remain exempt from the strike.
Besides, the nationwide two-day blockade program called by BNP will continue on Sunday and Monday.
In Chittagong morning-evening hartal has been called for a peaceful success by BNP Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Mir Md. Nashir Uddin, Advisor to Chairperson Golam Akbar Khandkar, SM Fazlul Haque, BNP Central Committee Organizing Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, Chittagong Metropolitan BNP Convener Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Member Secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar, Chittagong South District BNP Convener Abu Sufian, Senior Joint Convener Enamul Haque Enam.
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury was arrested by the detective police from a house in Gulshan of the capital on Thursday around 1 am. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Dhaka on Friday granted his six-day remand in view of the police plea in the murder case of Constable Amirul Haque.
