Five members of the same family were burnt in a gas line explosion in a house in Rupganj, Narayanganj. They have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn Unit and Plastic Surgery Institute.

The identity of the burnt victims – 94 percent of Sona Uddin (45), 58 percent of Ali Ahmed (65), 46 percent of Hasan Banu (55), 30 percent of Sahera Begum (24) and 15 percent of Omar Farooq (15) have been burnt. Among the injured, except Omar Farooq, the condition of the remaining four is said to be critical.
Tariqul Islam said, ‘A gas cylinder explosion happened in a house in Aukhabo area of Rupganj at around 1 am on Friday. Four of the injured are in critical condition. However, all five are under treatment.
Describing the explosion, neighbor Hormuz Ali said that there was a sudden explosion with a loud sound. Then fire broke out and five members of the same family got burnt. Later they were rescued and brought to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at around 1:30 pm.
Hasun Banu’s nephew brought the injured to the hospital. Noore Alam said, they live on the ground floor of that house in Rupganj. Hasun Banu is a housewife, her husband and brother work at a dry shop in Gauchia Bazar. Besides, daughter Sahara is disabled and son Omar Farooq works in local Anupam Garments.
He also said, ‘When they were sleeping in the house at night, the explosion took place from that gas line.’
Immediately after the incident, the neighbors rescued them and took them to the US Bangla Hospital in Narayanganj. Seeing the deterioration of the condition, they were brought to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn Institute in Dhaka at midnight. However, Hasun Banu’s elder son Formuz (22), a garment worker, was not at home at the time of the incident and escaped the fire.
