Agargaon-Motijheel section metro rail inauguration today

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Agargaon to Motijheel section of the Metrorail from Agargaon station on Saturday (November 4) at 2.30 pm. He will then board the metro rail to Motijheel for another inauguration ceremony at Motijheel station.

The Agargaon-Motijheel section will be opened for passengers from the day after the inauguration. From that day, this dream flying train will run from Uttara Uttar station to Motijheel.

Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL). MNA Siddique said that the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the construction of MRT Line-5 (Northern Route) on Saturday. This line will be 20 km long from Hemayetpur through Bhatara to Gabtali, Mirpur-10, Gulshan.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that initially the metro rail will stop at three stations in the Agargaon-Motijheel section. The length of Agargaon to Motijheel section is 8.72 km. In this section, the train will stop at Farmgate, Secretariat and Motijheel stations.

From November 5, the metro will run daily from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm on Uttara to Motijheel route. After 11:30 PM, metro rail service on Motijheel-Agargaon route will be stopped, but the Uttara-Agargaon section will run as usual till 8:30 PM.

The government accepted the Metrorail project in July 2012. The total length of metro rail from Uttara Uttar station to Motijheel is 21 km. However, considering the convenience of the city dwellers, the 1.16 km route from Motijheel to Kamalapur was later extended. The extended portion is scheduled to be completed by June 2024.
