US Ambassador to Dhaka Peter Haas held a ‘closed door’ meeting with Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen. The hour-long meeting was held on Thursday (October 2) at the Rashtriya Guest House Padma. But what was discussed, none of the parties openly said anything.
The meeting is expected to exchange important messages about the current political situation in the country, especially the elections. Besides, there may be many issues related to the interests of the two countries.
Meanwhile, the state guest did not speak to the media while leaving the building after the meeting. Some media persons waiting outside Padma were hoping that the foreign secretary would at least talk about the meeting. But the secretary could not be found as there was another program at the same venue.
On the same day at 2:30 PM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a ceremony to hand over medical supplies to Sri Lanka. There, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Apart from AK Abdul Momen, Foreign Secretary was also present. No questions were taken from the media persons on that occasion. As soon as the ceremony was over, the foreign secretary left the place quickly.
On the other hand, US Ambassador Peter Haas had a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal at the election building last Tuesday. After the meeting, he called for an unconditional dialogue between the political parties.
The international community, including the United States, wants dialogue between the warring political parties to find an acceptable way to end the heated political situation in the country and hold a free, fair and peaceful election. Ambassadors, High Commissioners of various countries that are development partners of Bangladesh are regularly encouraging all parties to resolve political disputes by sitting in dialogue.
