Two cases have been registered in connection with the clash of Chhatra League with Chhatra Dal and Shibir during the hartal called by Juba Dal in Sylhet. In these cases, more than 250 leaders and activists of Svechasevak Dal, Juba Dal, Chhatra Dal and Jamaat-Shibir have been made accused. On Thursday, Chhatra League leader Emon Ahmed filed a case at Kotwali police station as a plaintiff. Apart from this, Kotwali police station sub-inspector (SI) Kallol filed another case as a plaintiff for assault on the police. Fourteen named persons and 50-55 unknown persons were accused in the case of Chhatra League leader. They are – Sylhet Mahanagar Chhatra Dal President Sudeep Jyoti, General Secretary Fazle Rabbi Ahsan, District Chhatra Dal General Secretary Delwar Hossain Dinar, District Volunteers Dal Convenor Abdul Ahad Khan Jamal and Member Secretary Shakeel Morshed, Metropolitan BNP Former Member Secretary Mifta Siddiqui, District BNP ‘s member Mahbubul Haque Chowdhury, Mahanagar BNP joint convener Afshar Khan, BNP’s Mominul Haque, former Chhatra Dal leader Maqsud Ahmad. Fakhrul Islam, Abdur Rahman, Oliur Rahman and Zainal Abedin of Jamaat-Shibir. Apart from this, 170-180 unknown people have been accused by mentioning the names of 14 people in the case filed by the police.
The accused are- General Secretary of Metropolitan Chhatra Dal Fazle Rabbi Ahsan, District Chhatra Dal General Secretary Delwar Hossain Dinar, Chhatra Dal leader Abdus Salam Titu, Ubayed, Oliur Rahman Jhunu, former Chhatra Dal leader Arafat Chowdhury Zaki, Tarek, Shakeel Murshed, Jamaat-Shibir’s Afzal Ahmed, Sujat Ahmad, Raihan, Abib, Nashir and Shibbir Ahmad. On the second day of the blockade called by BNP-Jamaat on Wednesday, the leaders and activists of Sylhet district and Mahanagar Chhatra Dal took out a procession from Jailroad area of Bandarbazar to Karim Ullah market area on the second day of the blockade called by BNP-Jamaat. At that time, when the police stopped them, the clash ended.
At one point the police were forced to retreat. Later, Jamaat-Shibir leaders took out a huge procession from the opposite lane of Karim Ullah Market. With the procession, they took a position on the road in front of the local Karim Ullah market. Chhatra Dal was already at the same place. At that time, Chhatra Dal and Shibir attacked the anti-hartal procession led by Emdad-Suzel and Jawad of Telihaur group of Chhatra League through the road in front of Karim Ullah Market. At that time some people including District Chhatra League leader MR Muhib were severely beaten and injured by pelting bricks. Later, in the presence of police, Chhatra League, Jubo League and Volunteer League leaders chased back and resisted the camp and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists and occupied the field. Meanwhile, 12 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat were arrested in Sylhet in three days of the siege.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (North) Azbahar Ali Sheikh (PPM) said that no major incidents have occurred in Sylhet these 3 days except for some isolated incidents due to the strict stance of the law and order forces. On Thursday, 4 people were arrested on charges of sabotage in the name of blockade. Among them 1 in South Surma, 2 in Shahparan area and 1 in Jalalabad Thana area. Earlier on Wednesday, 6 people were arrested from Bandarbazar area. Two others were arrested in South Surma the day before. Legal action has been taken against all of them.
