Hasibul Hasan Antar, a student of Daffodil International University, was beaten to death. Students protested in the area adjacent to the university on Friday (November 3) afternoon to demand justice for this incident. During this time, incidents of vandalism and arson also occurred in various places.
The deceased Antar was a fourth year final semester student of Textile Department of Daffodil International University. His village home is in Mymensingh.
Savar Model Police Station OC Deepak Chandra Saha confirmed the truth of the incident yesterday.
It is reported that Antar was taken away from Dattapara in Birulia on October 30. He was later taken under the Birulia Bridge and beaten up. The accused left him near Khagan Bazar when he lost consciousness due to the beating. Later, the students rescued Antar and first took him to the Daffodil University Medical Center. From there Antar was admitted to Enam Medical College in Savar for advanced treatment. He died there while undergoing treatment in the ICU.
When the news of Antar’s death spread, the students took out a protest march. Later some local shops were vandalized and set on fire. Later the police came and brought the situation under control.
Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, director of student welfare affairs of the university, said, ‘We have lost a member of our family due to the beating of outsiders. A case has been registered in the police station. We demand maximum punishment for the guilty.’
Deputy Inspector (SI) of Savar Model Police Station, Didar Hossain, investigating officer of the case, said, ‘One person has been arrested in connection with the student’s death. He admitted his involvement in the incident in his deposition in court. The names of 6 accused have been mentioned in the affidavit in the case. The second accused is Rahat, a student of Daffodil University. An operation is underway to arrest the accused.
