University of Dhaka: Professor ASM Maqsood Kamal will take charge as the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) next Saturday (November 4).
He was appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor in a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on October 15.
He will take charge of the new vice-chancellor at the vice-chancellor’s office next Saturday. Later, he will lay wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at number 32 in Dhanmondi.
At the same time, the term of Vice-Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman is ending on Friday (November 3). Last Thursday (November 2) was Professor Akhtaruzzaman’s last working day as Vice-Chancellor as Friday was a public holiday. Deans, department chairmen and professors of various faculties including members of the university syndicate and senate gave farewell greetings to him in the meeting of the academic council. Farewell wishes were also conveyed to him in the Provost Committee meeting and Syndicate meeting held earlier.
It is known that Professor Akhtaruzzaman was temporarily appointed as the 28th Vice-Chancellor of the University on September 4, 2017 due to the expiry of the term of the former Vice-Chancellor ASM Arefin Siddique. Later on 3 November 2019, he was reappointed as the Vice-Chancellor for four years.
