The Commonwealth is sending a pre-election observation team to Dhaka ahead of the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. A pre-election observation team from Konwealth is likely to come in the third week of this month to see the pre-poll situation.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal informed the media on Friday (November 3).
The CEC said the Commonwealth Director (Election Monitoring) has expressed interest in sending a pre-assessment team in the third week of November. After monitoring the situation of the pre-assessment team, we hope that a team of them will come during the election as well.
It is known that the Commonwealth expressed its intention to send a pre-election observation team to Dhaka through e-mail. The observation team will be in Dhaka from November 19 to 23. The agency will decide on sending a full-fledged observation team during the election after reporting the observations of the pre-election observation team to the Commonwealth Secretary-General.
Earlier, the European Union (EU) sent a pre-election observation team to Dhaka and they decided not to send a full-fledged observation team during the election. Later, however, they said that they will send a four-member observation team to Dhaka to observe the 12th national election.
