Advocate Anichur Rahman, president of Nalchiti Upazila of Jhalkathi, has been arrested by the police.
On Thursday (November 2) around 1:00 p.m., the municipality arrested him from his home.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhalkathi Sadar Police Station Nasir Uddin Sarkar said that he was arrested in the case of injuring a policeman during the BNP’s central program on February 25 at Amtala Goli Road in the city.
District BNP Member Secretary Advocate Shahadat Hossain said that the leaders and activists gathered in front of the BNP office on Amtala Goli Road in the city to participate in the centrally announced padayatra program of BNP. After the rally started the march was stopped by the police. It turned into a clash with the leaders and activists. The police dispersed the activists by baton charge. The police arrested 16 people including District Youth Dal Member Secretary Advocate Anisur Rahman Khan from the spot.
District BNP Member Secretary Advocate Shahadat Hossain said that the police prevented the peaceful march of BNP. When the activists wanted to ignore the obstacles and move forward, the police resorted to baton charges. It dissipates. Advocate Anichur Rahman Khan Helal, president of Nalchiti Upazila BNP, has been arrested in that old case to dampen the ongoing movement.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Nasir Uddin said, BNP wanted to create chaos in the name of march. BNP leaders and activists pelted them with bricks. Three policemen including OC (Operation) Feroze were injured. 16 people were arrested from the spot. Anichur Rahman Helal, a fugitive accused in the warrant, has been arrested in that case.
