Ashfakur Rahman Kakon, former Ward Councilor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) and former convener of Ward No. 19 BNP, was arrested by the police from his home in Khulna on October 26. Later, he was arrested in an old sabotage case filed on December 4, 2022. Kakan has been in jail since then.
A separate case has been registered by the police in Aranghata police station of the city on the charge of petrol bomb attack on a truck on Thursday. The plaintiff in the case is Aranghata police station SI Zakirul Feroze. A total of 37 people including almost all the top leaders of Khulna BNP have been named in the case. Accused number 36 is Ashfakur Rahman Kakon.
In the statement of the case, the plaintiff mentioned, ‘Last November 1 at 5:10 pm, the arrested and absconding accused took out a procession to sabotage BNP and Jamaat in front of the godown named Akunji Bhandar on the east side of Khulna bypass road of Aranghata police station. A truck targeted the procession and hurled petrol bombs and cocktails.’
Kakan’s younger brother Abdul Alem told Samakal, ‘Dada has been in prison since October 26. He has been accused in a petrol bomb case. He asked, how did a man throw a petrol bomb at the truck from the jail?
