Bogra: On the second day of the three-day blockade called by the BNP-Jamaat, the besiegers vandalized a covered van in Tinmatha area of Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Bogra. Besides, 10 rounds of gas gun and four cocktail explosions occurred in that area.
However, no one was injured in this incident.
The incident took place on Wednesday (01 November) from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.
Meanwhile, Bogra’s Charmatha central bus terminal and Thanthania bus stand of the city were not seen leaving any long-distance bus. The counters were also seen closed from morning to noon. On the other hand, since morning in Bogra, the leaders and activists of the District Volunteers took a stand in the Tinmatha Railgate area of the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in support of the blockade.
At that time, the besiegers vandalized some vehicles including a covered van. Later, when the members of the law and order forces came to the spot, the situation calmed down. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police on one side of the highway and the blockaders took position on the other side. At one point the police and BGB started patrolling. The conflict began. Throwing several rounds of gas gun. At that time, the protestors broke four cocktails and dispersed after being chased by the police.
Besides, a large number of Jamaat-Shibir leaders started picketing in Tinmatha, Charmatha, Subgram-Ghuniyatala and Baropur areas of the city since morning. At around 9 am, tension broke out during the crossing of a few vehicles, which were blocked by BGB guards at Ghuniyatala on the second bypass road. At that time, the Jamaat workers chased each other with the law and order forces. After about 20 minutes of back-and-forth chase, the situation calmed down when the Jamaat workers withdrew from the highway.
Earlier, at 8:30 in the morning, the police fired several rounds of tear shells during the BNP procession in Matidali area of Bogra. At that time, BNP leaders and activists threw bricks and stones at the police. At present, vehicles are plying on the roads with the help of law enforcement agencies. About half a hundred goods vehicles were passed under police guard.
District BNP general secretary Ali Azgar Talukdar Hena said that our leaders and workers have been stationed at various points on the highway since morning. Even though we want to hold the program peacefully, the police and Awami Bahini continue to attack us.
Bogra Additional Superintendent of Police Snigdh Akhtar told BanglaNews that the policemen are working tirelessly to restore peace and order on the streets. Don’t let unpleasant situations happen on the road. Attempts to destabilize the situation will be taken only.
