On Monday (September 18), Judge Yarb Hossain of Barisal’s Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal gave the verdict.
The convicts are Rajat Halder (36) son of Subir Halder of Ahti Batra village of Agailjhara upazila of Barisal and Abul Hossain Bali (45) son of late Arj Ali Bali of Kachua village of Ujirpur upazila.
Two convicts were present in the courtroom when the verdict was announced. Humayun Kabir, assistant bench of the court, confirmed the matter in the afternoon.
Regarding two separate cases, Bench Assistant Humayun Kabir said that on June 5, 2012, an 11-year-old girl went to chase cows in the paddy field near her house in Ahti Batra village of Agailjhara Upazila, Barisal. Rajat, who was at the side of the field, then grabbed the child’s face and took him to the adjacent field. Rajat raped her there. In this incident, the child filed a case in Agailjhara police station. The police station’s SI Idris Ali filed a charge sheet accusing Rajat on August 4, 2012. The judge ruled on the signatures of seven people.
On the other hand, on April 9, 2013, shopkeeper Abul Hossain Bali lured a 9-year-old madrasa student to the shop in Wazirpur. Later she was raped there. At that time, a customer came and saw the shopkeeper Abul raping the child and went to the madrassa and reported it. Later the madrasa teachers went and rescued the child. The child’s father filed a case in this incident.
Humoun Kabir, SI of Uzirpur Model Police Station, submitted the charge sheet to the court on June 23 of the same year. The judge announced the verdict with the signatures of the four.
