The government has decided to purchase software for the National Board of Revenue (NBR) from the United Arab Emirates at a cost of around Tk 218 crore. The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved the purchase of this software in view of a proposal of the Department of Internal Resources.
The meeting was held on Thursday (March 23) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal. He said that the seventh meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the 11th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement were held today. One proposal has been presented for the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and seven for the approval of the Purchase Committee.
Among the procurement proposals were two from the Department of Road Transport and Highways, one from the Ministry of Agriculture, one from the Ministry of Industries, one from the Department of Internal Resources, one from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources and one from the Ministry of Commerce. The total amount of money in the seven proposals approved by the purchase committee is 1 thousand 296 crores 75 lakhs 83 thousand 760 taka. Out of the total financing, 711 crore 20 lakh 38 thousand 258 taka will be spent from GOB (government fund) and 585 crore 55 lakh 45 thousand 502 taka from domestic banks, ADB and World Bank loans.
Syed Mahbub Khan said, under Bangladesh Regional Communication Project-1 National Single Window Implementation and Customs Modernization and Strengthening Project, the purchase of ‘Software Solution and Automated Ricks Management System’ software for Tk 217 crore 99 lakh 23 thousand 490 has been approved. On the other hand, in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, the Chittagong Port Authority under the Ministry of Shipping has decided to implement the international quality private operator recruitment project for the management and maintenance of Newmooring Container Terminal and Newmooring Overflow Container Yard as per the ‘Procurement Guidelines for PPP Project 2018’ on the basis of Public Private Partnership (PPP). Approval has been granted.
