The production titled Mukti became popular with the audience from the opening staging of that day. Later, the play was staged continuously with the love of theater lovers. The production, which has been enthralling the audience for over a decade and a half, reached the milestone of 100th staging on November 5, 2021. After a break of ten months, the play came back on stage on Saturday. The 101st performance of the production was held at the Studio Theater Hall of Shilpakala Academy’s National Theater this evening.

The late industrialist and diplomat Mizarul Kayes inspired the play based on the world famous American playwright Lee Blessing’s ‘Independence’. Tripa Majumdar has directed the play with four characters.

The story of the play proceeds with the events of the lives of these four women, mother and three girls. Independence is a small town in Iowa, USA. This is where the story begins and ends. The different emotional states of the four female characters are exposed in the production. Uncomfortable but intriguing details emerge from that reality. The mother is mentally ill. He lives with two daughters. Among the three sisters, the elder sister lives in another city. He returned home after four years to see his mother and two younger sisters.

On the other hand, the second sister became pregnant despite being unmarried. And the youngest is a teenage rebel. Among these three sisters, one’s emancipation is through transcendence, another’s reformation, another’s emancipation seeking recognition of one’s own activism. And in the case of the mother, the sacrifice of her whole life and stubbornness to get the reward. The story is covered in such stories.

Although the story is based in the US, the lifestyle and social context of the characters is modeled on our reality. The whole play has a strong flow, which extends to the last scene of the last act. Inherent in this fluency are diverse human emotions including laughter, tears, fear, wonder, conviction.

Ferdousi Majumder has given the role of mother in the production. And Tamanna Islam, Tanjum Ara Palli and Tanveen Sweety played the role of three sisters.
