Ahmed Saad, the singer of Paper Rhyme band, lost his battle with cancer for a long time.

The singer, known to the audience in the 90s for songs like ‘Andhkar Gharre’, died at a private hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday around 12 pm. He was 52 years old.

Saad’s school friend and Paper Rhyme band member Anindya Kabir Abhik told bdnews24.com, “Saad was battling cancer for many years. In the middle the cancer got better. But after a few months, the cancer spread throughout the body.

“He had a heart attack three days ago and was admitted to the United Hospital. Heart attack again on Tuesday morning. Later that night the doctor on duty declared him dead.”

Abhic said Saad’s burial may take place on Thursday and the matters will be finalized in the family.

In the nineties, the band Paper Rhyme and the artist Ahmed Saad made a name for themselves by releasing only one album.

The book ‘Bangla Rock Metal’ written by Milu Aman and Haq Farooq mentions ‘Paper Rhyme’ – Paper Rhyme’s first album was released under the band’s name in 1996 under the Soundtech banner.

Listeners love the lyrics and composition of hard rock, melorock, soft rock songs. Especially the songs ‘Andhkar Ghara’, ‘Akasher Key Rong’, ‘Elomelo’ are among the favorite songs of many. But due to various commitments of the band members, Paper Rhyme activities stopped that year.

In 2009, Paper Rhyme was relaunched. Mirage and Lonnie then joined the band. In 2011, drummer Abhik returned to the country and joined the band. Band practice continued with renewed vigor. Initiatives were also taken to release the band’s new album. But the sudden illness of Pepper Rhyme’s vocalist Sade put an end to everything. Paper Rhyme’s run ended in 2012.

Paper Rhyme’s last single was released on a mixed album titled ‘Abar’. The title of the song is ‘Stand Up Friend’. The mixed album was released in 2017 under the banner of Ashiq Music.

Originally, school friends founded the band Paper Rhyme on January 24, 1992. The lineup of the band was Saad on vocals, Rashed on guitar, Nasser on keyboard, Suman on bass guitar and Abhik on drums.

Abhik said, “My friendship with Saad dates back to my school days. Saad was studying in Udayan School, I was studying in University Laboratory School. All of us in the band lived in the university area. Three of the band were from the Udayan School, and two from the University Laboratory School. But we were good friends.”

It is written in the book ‘Bangla Rock Metal’: “Saad, Nasser, Rashed, Suman, Abhik were then immersed in the Dhaka University campus music practice. Teacher Quaters also used to sing along to their songs. The friends performed together for the first time at Vikarunnisa Noon School and College. That day they decided to form a band. Named ‘Paper Rhyme’. That day was January 24, 1992.

“After forming the band, the Paper Rhyme Army continued to perfect themselves through rigorous practice. The live show continues. Billal was the manager of the band for a year and a half, then Shakeel. At the concert, they continue to sing praises. Among them, Bamba’s concert on the ground of Shilpakala Academy and the concert at the university laboratory are particularly noteworthy.”
