He started writing songs for movies in 2018 after a career spanning four decades. He has written for the movies ‘Dhaka Attack’, ‘Voyankar Sundar’, ‘Uturn’ and ‘Jada Ekdan’. However, in 2023, he came to the center of discussion after writing for Shakib Khan’s ‘Priyatma’ and Mahfuz Ahmed’s ‘Prahelika’.
In that vein, the title song of the biggest movie ‘Rajkumar’ released this Eid is also written by him. The song has been trending on YouTube since its release as number one in Bangladesh. Asif Iqbal’s progress does not end here.
On April 21, the YouTube trending list saw two more songs written by Asif Iqbal occupying the top ten. Among them, Imran and Trisha’s independent song ‘Valobasi Bole Jao’ is at number 7. Which has been released this Eid on Imran’s own YouTube channel. Last year’s superhit song ‘O Priyatma’ is at number 9 of the trending list. And Priyatmar’s return to YouTube trending shows that even after more than a year, the song is still on people’s lips.
On this Eid, about a hundred songs have been released on YouTube along with movies and audios. Among these, Asif Iqbal is alone in the top ten in three songs. Analysts feel that this trending list proves that there is Munsiana in songwriting as well as artist-composer. Asif Iqbal once again proved his worth as a lyricist.
In this context, Asif Iqbal said, I am only a lyricist. Not an artist or composer. As a result, it is very difficult to prove yourself just by writing songs in this multi-dimensional time. At that difficult time, I was surprised to see three songs written by myself trending together. Eyes become blurred. I have four decades of songwriting experience. It could not have lasted so long without the love of the audience. But after becoming a regular in movies since last year, I feel the joy of writing songs anew. I want to keep this good-feeling alive. I would like to thank my composers, artists, producers and heroes. Because film work is really teamwork. ‘
Asif Iqbal wrote more than 500 songs in four decades. Almost all of which are outside of cinema, radio, television and audio. His first song was released in 1984 on BTV. Composed by Syed Mansoor, the song written for the Bandhan Shilpi group is called ‘Anek Toh Kaguhi’.
