Bollywood stars supported India by sitting in the stadium in almost every match of the World Cup. Anushka Sharma-Athiya Shetty went on the field not only as celebrities, but as spouses of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Anushka-Athiya was also present in India-Australia final. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has come under fire for questioning the cricket knowledge of these two Bollywood actresses. Yesterday, India and Australia met in the final of the World Cup at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. The match was being broadcast on an Indian channel with Hindi commentary. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh was the commentator of the channel. At one point during the match, the broadcast camera was pointed at Anushka and Athiya sitting in the gallery. In the video, two Bollywood actresses were talking about something between themselves. Harbhajan said, ‘I don’t know if they are talking about cricket or movies.
I don’t think their cricketing knowledge is good.’ Harbhajan’s discriminatory comments instantly went viral on social media. One X (Twitter’s new name) wrote on the platform, ‘Harbhajan Singh, what do you mean by saying girls don’t understand cricket? You should apologize immediately.’ Roshan Rai wrote, ‘Harbhajan is a part-time politician, full-time dramatist. He should apologize and be ashamed for making such a nasty comment.’ Many have also taken the side of Harbhajan. One wrote, ‘Anyone can comment on what they (Anushka-Athiya) are discussing. What’s there to apologize for?’ An account named Ahmed Riaz wrote, ‘Hey bro, what did Harbhajan do that he needs to apologise?’ Indian cricketer Virat Kohli got married to Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma in December 2017. This star couple has one child. Last January, Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul married actress Athiya Shetty, daughter of Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty.
