Designed in California, Lucid Motors is California’s electric vehicle that can be used to attend red carpet events or drive through vast redwood forests to scenic Pacific beaches.

At a recent Hollywood movie premiere on Hollywood Boulevard, a line of shiny black Lucid electric cars rolled down the red carpet, carrying A-list stars to the event. When the rear doors of each eco-friendly Lucid are opened, the low-slung design allows everyone to get out more gracefully and comfortably than some SUVs.

Peter Rawlinson, CEO of Lucid Motors

Lucid Motors is the California dream of electric car company CEO and Chief Technology Officer Peter Rawlinson. Rawlinson is a graduate of Imperial College London and an expert in the field of engineered automobiles.

Rawlinson brings more than 30 years of experience and expertise to Lucid Motors, having served as Tesla’s vice president of vehicle engineering and chief engineer of the Model S. Rawlinson joined Tesla in 2009 and built the Tesla engineering team from day one of the Model S, working with Elon Musk on the production rollout.

He was recognized for his experience, talent and vision in his roles as Head of Vehicle Engineering at Corus Automotive, Chief Engineer at Lotus Cars and Chief Engineer at Jaguar Cars.

Today, Lucid Motors’ mission is to inspire sustainable energy adoption by creating engaging electric vehicles that are firmly rooted in the human experience.

The Lucid Air can travel 410 miles without recharging, while the Lucid Grand Touring can easily cruise up to 516 miles. Los Angeles to San Francisco can easily be road tripped without recharging.

Another Lucid Motors leader is Derek Jenkins, senior vice president of design and brand. He led his team in creating the ultimate California-themed electric vehicle, combining cutting-edge aesthetics with earth-friendly materials.

Early in Lucid Air’s development, they drew inspiration from mid-century modern furniture and living spaces for timeless interior design. It brings warmth, softness and sophistication to carefully crafted and selected materials. The design is a balance of innovation, technology and recycled materials. “We used a door panel material that is 30 percent alpaca and 70 percent polyester,” says Jenkins. “It’s made from recycled water bottles to prevent plastic from ending up in landfills.”

Because California has one of the most diverse geographic landscapes, Lucid Air symbolizes specific locations within the Golden State, including Santa Monica, Santa Cruz, the Mojave Desert, and Lake Tahoe.

The comfortable front seats are a slightly different color than the rear seats. An example is the Mojave Desert theme. Designers appreciate the near-zero light pollution late at night, punctuated by soft twinkling stars in the deepest black sky. This galaxy provides enough light to cast shadows across the desert landscape. The front seats are finished in deep black nappa full-grain leather, which is considered the purest type of leather and retains all the texture of the leather, while the rear seats are finished in soft charcoal grey.

One of the Golden State’s themes is Santa Cruz, a seaside town along the California coast where redwood forests meet the ocean. Inspirational colors come from the afternoon sun burning off the morning fog on the coast. Blue skies and bright sunlight create silver tips in curly waves. This light is the exterior color applied to Lucid Air.

Interior decor includes coastal cliff and sand colors, as well as espresso, cool gray mist and light colored seashells. The console and doors are inlaid with real walnut trim, showing off the beautiful natural grain.

Sitting inside the soft, minimally processed leather, one will appreciate its flexibility and breathability. Seat vents allow for cool and warm air circulation, improving driver and passenger comfort.

To further showcase Lucid’s California DNA, the state emblem – the California grizzly bear – appears on the wheel rims or as a decal on the vehicle.

Santa Monica is another Lucid Motors theme, inspired by the excitement of the coastal city west of Los Angeles. On summer mornings, long beaches are bathed in subtle shades of gray and white. Interiors feature cushioned leather and lightly washed wood, reminiscent of waterside sand and driftwood.

Driving through the Sierra Nevada Mountains along the border of California and Nevada to reach Lake Tahoe, one will notice the evening colors and gorgeous sunsets. Warm tones of red, yellow and saturated orange against the darkening sky inspired the designers to create a warm black and saddle brown leather interior with beautiful contrast stitching to reflect the Lake Tahoe theme.

Smoked Oak trim pays homage to California’s ancient oak trees, offering a modern elegance while driving in luxury.
